Hello! My name is Phil and welcome to my website. For those of you who don't know me, I'll tell you a little about myself. By trade, I am a mechanical engineering technologist whose long time obsession has been playing guitar. With the recent economic downturn across Canada and the loss of employment in the manufacturing sector, I have been forced to consider some other career options. Most of my friends have suggested trying to do something guitar related such as doing repairs or even building! I figured they were crazy and thought there is no way I could ever do that! I always did my own setups and minor repairs, but I did want to learn to do all of my own repairs (a refret for example) so for several months I spent time researching guitar repair and building until I got the crazy idea to build an acoustic guitar!!!!
Armed with little woodworking experience, hardly any tools, no access to a shop, and living in a one bedroom basement apartment, I decided I would never learn any more without any hands on experience. I started building a guitar from a kit in my living room!
Now almost 2 years later I have my own house, and my own shop! With work still difficult to find I have decided to work towards becoming a self taught luthier if possible. I know this dream won't happen over night and I have a steep learning curve ahead of me, but I can dream right!? Hope you enjoy my site as I add to it, and check out my blogs for regular updates on my projects!
